 March 2011

Breast cancer is pink. I'm not pink! Although I have come to grips with being a woman, the tomboy "Ilene" had a hard time wrapping her brain around what is commonly identified as a woman's disease. At first I was embarrassed to have breast cancer... It's so girly, so pink, and so scary...Im dealing with it now.  I have wonderful family and friends and doctors .here is my ongoing story:

Dear Cancer,
Thank you.
Without you I would not have felt all the love and support from my  partner, family, new and long time friends......and clients.... even casual acquaintances.....and physicians...... and nurses....I've always been blessed with wonderful people. You just reminded me.

Without you I may never have gotten my body back in shape. I forgot the healing power of exercise, and better eating habits. So,again, thanks for reminding me.  Also, I have a pair of brand new fake boobs i really don't actually call them breasts. They never get sore or squeezed by that big machine.

I counted my blessings everyday before I met you, but you have provided me with more blessings....odd I know....It was a blessing you hadn't invaded my body further.
I do look at life differently. I realize because of you, I'm not afraid to die.... No one is immortal....

I live my life like I'm wealthy...I am rich with humor....love.....friends and family....and so much.
I think you made me better a person too.   At least i'm trying.
Some people have called me brave and inspiring. This makes me proud. But it was easy somehow, and I have forgotten any pain, fatigue and fears.
